Opening hours
Restrict Captive Portal access to specific time windows — useful for venues with fixed operating hours.
Opening Hours let you keep the Captive Portal available only during the hours your venue is open. Outside those hours, guests reaching the portal see an “outside opening hours” message instead of a sign-in form.
Open Portal Configuration → Opening Hours from the Context admin.
When to use Opening Hours
Section titled “When to use Opening Hours”- Venues with fixed hours — offices, shops, conference centres. Guests arriving after close shouldn’t see a working sign-in form.
- Events with time-bound access — pair with the Event Access module to run a portal only during the event window.
- Shared spaces with quiet hours — co-working and co-living venues that don’t want to serve guest WiFi overnight.
If your venue runs 24/7, you can leave Opening Hours disabled — the portal is always available by default.
How Opening Hours gate access
Section titled “How Opening Hours gate access”Opening Hours apply at the Context level, to new and existing access alike:
- A guest reaching the portal outside opening hours cannot start a new sign-in flow — the portal shows the “outside opening hours” page instead.
- A guest who is already connected does not keep access once the Context is closed. While the Context is outside its opening hours, even a device with an otherwise-valid login is sent back to the portal and shown the closed page. Access resumes when the Context reopens, subject to the applicable Access Policy.
- Access Policy durations and end-date policies still apply on top of Opening Hours: they cap how long a session can last, but they cannot extend access beyond the Context’s open window.
Configuring a schedule
Section titled “Configuring a schedule”Define a schedule per weekday. Typical patterns:
- Same hours every day — set one time range and apply it across all weekdays.
- Weekdays vs weekends — one schedule Mon–Fri, another Sat–Sun.
- Closed on certain days — leave a day’s schedule empty to close the portal entirely on that day.
Note
Schedules are evaluated against the platform’s standard time. If your venues span multiple timezones, consider separate Sign-In Contexts per venue.
What guests see outside opening hours
Section titled “What guests see outside opening hours”The portal shows a branded “outside opening hours” page with no sign-in methods available. The page inherits the same Look & Feel as the regular portal and the message is localized to the guest’s browser language.
